Halloween – A Brief History

I’ve posted this before on my school website, but I thought I’d repost here. This is my take on the celebration of All Hallow’s Eve (Halloween in current usage). “Hallow” is an old word for “holy” (it’s used that way in the Our Father); “e’en” is a contraction for “evening.” Our word “Halloween” is thus […]

Descended to the Dead

So I’m cleaning out files from my work computer and I found one that would make a good, long-overdue post – enjoy! 🙂 The Apostle’s creed was written sometime in the 1st or 2nd century (compare it to the Nicene-Constantinople Creed [the one we say in church] which was composed around the 4th century). It […]

Kids These Days!

I tend to hear statements about how each subsequent generation of children is worse then before. I have some quotes I’ve always found useful to remind myself that yes, each generation/class of kids is different, but one thing stays the same: adults will always look nostalgically back to the past and rousingly say “we were […]

Happy All Hallow’s Eve

“Hallow” is an old word for “holy” (it’s used that way in the Our Father); “e’en” is a contraction for “evening.” Our word “Halloween” is thus a shortened form of “All Hallow’s Eve.” If you’ve ever wondered if we should “celebrate” Halloween . . . read on! 🙂 In the mid-4th century a feast for […]

A Series of Posts – Worship of Mary & the Saints

I post on my blog using Windows Live Writer, and then that blog post gets pulled into my Facebook page using Simplaris Blogcast. But it doesn’t seem to provide a link (only the first paragraph), so I’ll see if the links I posted above go through. 🙂 And now, on to your regularly scheduled blog […]

The Eucharist (or “What is Transubstantiation?”)

I belong to an email discussion list where I’m the only Catholic (which had made for some fun discussions!). I have 100’s of saved emails – I’m culling through them for some blogger material. So for the next few weeks – enjoy 🙂 Also, I copied and pasted quotes from several websites – most of […]

Back from the Conference

I attended the National Youth Workers Conference put on by Youth Specialties in Austin last week/weekend. It was my first time attending, and I really enjoyed it. The first day and a half I participated in a contemplative retreat entitled “Becoming the Beloved.” It was facilitated by Mark Yaconelli, and it was the best part […]

The National Youth Workers Convention

Later on this week I’m attending the National Youth Workers Convention in Austin, TX. I have to admit to being a bit nervous – this is the first non-Catholic large-scale conference that I’ll be attending. I usually attend the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (an every-other-year event), but this year my budget couldn’t handle […]

Finally . . . A Post! :-)

Nothing for quite a while – no excuses (except for the normal ones – laziness, work and family commitments), so here’s an interview I did for a students a few years ago that I found floating around in my computer – enjoy! 🙂 1. What is one of your earliest memories about God/Jesus?The earliest memory […]

Galveston Vacation

Our Galveston vacation was cut short with the threat of flash flooding and tropical stom winds and rain, but otherwise it was fun. We did the beach, the pool, four-person bicycling, window-shopping, Moody Gardens, paddleboat ride, dinner at a tropical-rainforest-themed resteraunt, dinner at an excellent steak place, and catching up with my sisters. Blessings & […]
