Chapter 3 – God’s Masterpieces

We’re half-way through the school week – here are some more glimpses of 7th grade religion class! The students are working on definitions for their chapter test (which, incidentally, has been moved to Monday, October 2nd), and these are the words they’ve added:
  • sign – something that points the way
  • sacrament – a visible and effective sign, given to us by Christ, through which we share in God’s grace
  • Sacred Scripture – “holy writing”; the written story of God’s plan; the inspired word of God; another name for the Bible
  • lectionary – the official liturgical book that contains the Scripture readings assigned to the various days of the Church year
  • anamnesis – the liturgical act of remembering
  • presence – literally means “to be before one” – that is, to be here
We also talked about the different ways that Jesus is really and truly present in every act of liturgy (every sacrmamental celebration and every celebration of Mass):
  • in the person of the priest
  • in the gathered community
  • in the proclamation of Scripture
  • in the bread and wine of the Eucharist
As a side note, students in 7th grade have begun work on their Gala project. Each student is painting a wooden cross (approx. 3″ x 4″), and the crosses will be attached to canvas stretched over wooden frames to form a triptych. If possible, I’ll post some of their work next week.

Blessings & Peace,
Mr. De La Rosa
