my desk sits there . . .
\nchair and lamp
\nare ready<\/p>\n
Paper, pen, books
\nlifeless as of yet
\nbut ready to do as I command them
\nas I bend them to my will
\nto study
\nand pass
\nand gain knowledge<\/p>\n
but something is amiss . . .<\/p>\n
pen and paper, of their own volition
\nfly to my hand
\ndefying the laws of gravity
\nelemental air assaults me
\neven as ethereal thoughts pour
\nonto the formerly pristine void
\nas letters to friends are composed
\nin the breath of an instant
\nand in the blink of an eye<\/p>\n
that done, my mind turns once more
\nto the completion of my work<\/p>\n
but suddenly,
\nthe electromagnetic entities that control my radio
\nexert their mystical powers
\nand a surge of energy bursts the radio to life
\nas if that weren’t enough
\na spiritual apparition can be seen –
\ngliding silently and effortlessly –
\nacross the floor
\nit surreptitiously gestures
\nand by some ghostly psychokinesis
\nby some act of sorcerous levitation and manipulation
\nit lifts and sets a cassette into the proper receptacle
\nand music swells<\/p>\n
it pours into my soul
\nand my body sings with joy
\nevery fiber resonates with the heavenly sounds
\nthat are emanating from the psychically induced
\nconglomeration of wires and metal . . .<\/p>\n
however, as the music fades, my emotions fade as well . . .
\ncoming down to an earthly existence
\nafter reaching and exploring the pinnacles of heaven is hard
\nbut work beckons<\/p>\n
it calls
\nyet its voiced appeals are lost
\nas sweeter delights beckon . . .<\/p>\n
a banshee sings,
\nand her sweet song is heard drifting down the corridors
\nto my room
\na chorus of angelic voices raises my consciousness,?
\nand seduces me
\nuntil . . .<\/p>\n
possessed by the spirits of long dead musicians
\ni am led to the chapel
\nthere, the object of their desires is to be found
\nan instrument of such grandeur that its very name
\nbelies it’s power
\na piano . . .<\/p>\n
my body, now under the control of benevolent spirits
\nis guided to that creation
\nas I sit my hands are lifted
\nand melodies are produced<\/p>\n
finally, their appetite for musical expression satisfied
\nthey thank me and leave my mortal shell
\nmy mind, finally its own again
\nreminds me of the work I need to do
\nand I walk back to my room
\nin a daze<\/p>\n
as I enter the room grows dark . . .
\nsuddenly, shafts of light blaze forth
\nas a book materializes in my hands
\nthen, by some act of mystical teleportation
\ni am lying on my bed . . .
\nI think
\n“I’m reading and it helps me learn . . .”
\nso I keep going
\nsince I enjoy what I’m reading
\nand as I read
\nmy parapsychological experience
\nis forgotten<\/p>\n
but then . . .
\na chill . . .
\nI feel a presence<\/p>\n
by some clairvoyant faculty I know
\nand act on my knowledge
\nthat I must call . . .<\/p>\n
so I am led, once more, out of my microcosmic world
\ninto the greater world without
\nand as I reach the object of my desires
\nI reach out and touch someone
\nfor a while . . .<\/p>\n
when I have finally finished
\nI am spent
\ndaily combat with forces beyond my control
\ntires me
\nand I must rest . . .<\/p>\n
stripping myself of my battle gear
\nI lie in bed
\nwaiting for repose and refreshment to come
\nas it does,
\na fleeting thought enters my mind
\n” . . . homework . . .”<\/p>\n
“tomorrow,” I thihnk
\nand sleep<\/p>\n
(and that’s why I didn’t do my homework)<\/p>\n
